Description
India–NZ FTA: Unlocking a Generational Opportunity
To explore the opportunities arising from the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the EMA is hosting a trade forum featuring Vangelis Vitalis, New Zealand’s lead negotiator on the deal. The briefing follows the signing of the agreement in New Delhi by Trade and Investment Minister Todd McClay and Indian Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.
Described by the government as a “once-in-a-generation agreement”, the FTA is expected to significantly deepen New Zealand’s economic engagement with India, one of the world’s fastest-growing markets with a population of 1.4 billion. Against this backdrop, Vangelis will provide EMA Members with an insider’s perspective on the negotiation process, the strategic intent behind the agreement, and what it means for New Zealand exporters and manufacturers as they look to expand their presence in the Indian market.
Key discussion points include:
- The strategic significance of the India–New Zealand FTA in a shifting global trade environment.
- What tariff reductions and market access outcomes mean in practice for exporters.
- Opportunities across goods, services, and investment flows into India.
- The implementation process and what businesses should prepare for next.
