Join us for a panel discussion with industry experts, sharing practical steps for business leaders in export and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to introduce and develop sustainable practices while embedding a sustainability culture and mindset. This will enable your business to adapt to ongoing legislative and regulatory changes, both domestic and offshore, and to meet the sustainability demands of the international market.

Panellists include: 

Mike Burrell, CEO, Sustainable Business Council 

Mike is the Chief Executive of the Sustainable Business Council (SBC) and Climate Leaders Coalition (CLC). He is also a Director on the board of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER). Mike’s previous role was with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where he was the Director of Sustainable Economic Development, before serving as New Zealand’s High Commissioner to South Africa and chargé d'affaires to Myanmar. Mike was the founding CEO of Aquaculture New Zealand. Before that he was with international law and economic consulting firm LECG after consulting in international development. Mike has over 30 years’ experience in leadership and consulting roles in New Zealand and internationally. Mike has degrees from the London School of Economics and the University of Canterbury. He lives in Wellington and is married with two children

Nick Swallow, Director, Sustainability, KPMG

Nick leads KPMG New Zealand’s mid-sized business sustainability consulting and advisory services. He has completed a Master of Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cambridge. His research focussed on sustainable practices in New Zealand SMEs, purpose-led business leadership, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction in dairy farming. Before KPMG, Nick was New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, based in London. In this role, Nick supported mid-sized New Zealand businesses to enter and grow in offshore markets. During his time in the UK, he developed support services for Kiwi exporters to thrive by understanding European ESG requirements and market demand for sustainable products and services.
