Influencing People

Great leadership isn't just about technical proficiency or exercising authority, it's about having influence and the ability to persuade people not under your authority. If your role relies on building strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders, this workshop will prove invaluable. Suitable for people at all organisational levels, it will improve your ability to influence a wide variety of people, right to the very top of an organisation.

Description

What you’ll learn...

This course teaches a strategic approach to increasing your level of influence. You’ll learn how to construct an ‘influence map’ of your important professional relationships, target who you need to influence, and build your capacity to win their backing. You’ll also learn the principles of positive persuasion, to help change people’s minds or get them on board when you need to.

  • The relationship between influence and persuasion, and why you need to build the first so you can apply the second.
  • Decisions and how people make them: the principles of effective influencing.
  • Making your message engaging and compelling, and the importance of emotional intelligence when influencing others.
  • Influencing upwards in your organisation and using positive influence to win long-term backing from important stakeholders.

After, you’ll be able to...

  • Create a climate of trust and collaboration that will strengthen your relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Recognise your influencing style and adapt it to deliver your messages more confidently and persuasively.
  • Understand what’s important to others and earn ‘influencing credit’ by supporting them in the way they’ll most appreciate.
