This course is relevant for anyone appointed to or dealing with a workplace Health and Safety committee: new or existing members, a subject matter expert, someone coopted onto the committee on an ad-hoc basis, or a manager/officer responsible for overseeing and implementing the committee’s recommendations.

Play an active part in the continual improvement of health and safety within your organisation and give insights into how to maintain the effectiveness and motivation of your committee. Any number of committee members can participate, and it is a great opportunity to interact with others in similar roles.

  • Apply your knowledge effectively as a Health and Safety committee member.
  • Understand the methods of risk assessment and evaluation.
  • Evaluate workplace risks and hazards that may cause harm to yourself and others and prescribe effective hazard and risk control methods.
  • Describe methods of risk assessment and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the organisation’s overall compliance with the HSW Act and associated regulations.
  • Contribute to a health and safety committee that works well to achieve positive safety outcomes for all.

Describe the role and function of a health and safety committee in a New Zealand workplace.

Learners can expect to do an additional 13 hours of self-directed learning to complete this unit standard.

Note: This is not an NZQA approved course, however learners that achieve the unit standard attached to this course will have this added to their NZ Record of Achievement with NZQA.
